🔗 Share this article Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends. The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds. Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT. Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running. The Japanese lost control over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight. The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
