Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a clamor to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles globally maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
