It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
